Tony McAvoy SC

Tony McAvoy is a Wirdi man from Central Queensland and was Australia's first Indigenous senior counsel. Tony has a large practice in native title, human rights, discrimination law, coronial inquests and criminal law. Tony was previously Acting Part-Time Commissioner of the NSW Land and Environment Court. Tony was also the Acting Northern Territory Treaty Commissioner for a period until 30 June 2022

Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah

Randa Abdel-Fattah is a writer, academic, anti-racism and Palestine advocate, former lawyer and the multi-award-winning author of 14 books published internationally. Randa is also a Future Fellow at Macquarie University where she researches Islamophobia, race, social justice movements and youth identities. 


Sarah Ibrahim

Sarah is a commercial and human rights lawyer. Sarah runs her own commercial law firm. Sarah also teaches, as a sessional academic in law. Sarah is an experienced race discrimination litigator.

Saraswathy Varatharajullu 

Saraswathy Varatharajullu is the former COO of Women of Colour Australia. Saraswathy is a principal lawyer and mediator who has worked in the employment space for over five years. Saras provides support in building strong and effective foundations for programs and organisations.

Reem Mussa

Reem is a Strategic Advisor and sessional academic in development and anthropology. Reem graduated with Honours from Melbourne University. Reem has her Master's degree in Migration and Intercultural Relations.

Desmond Kennedy SC (retired)

Desmond is a retired Senior Counsel, who practised extensively in racial and sexual discrimination, sexual harassment and bullying. Desmond has written and presented extensively in all these areas. He appeared as SC for Mr Naidu in the matter of Nationwide News Pty Ltd ats Naidu. The case resurrected for practical purposes the tort of 'intentional harm', with Mr Naidu being awarded damages of $2.05M.

Professor Simon Rice

Simon is a Professor of Law at Sydney University, a Lawyer, Kim Santow Chair of Law and Social Justice, a Consultant, Author and a Discrimination Law Expert. Simon has been a consultant to the NSW Law Reform Commission, a judicial member of the NSW ADT and a legal adviser to the Federal Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights. 

Dr Souheir Edelbi

Souheir is a Lecturer in Law at Western Sydney University. Souheir's research focuses on questions of race, coloniality and international justice.  Souheir completed her PhD with the UNSW on the intersection of Third World Approaches to International Law, Postcolonial Studies and Critical Race Theory.  

Associate Professor, Jennifer Nielsen

Jennifer is an experienced legal academic with a record of publications work which applies critical race and whiteness theory to reveal how mainstream Australian law privileges ‘white’ interests over those of First Nations’ peoples and ‘non-white’ groups.   

Lorna Munro

Lorna's traditional name is 'Yilinhi'. Lorna is a Wiradjuri and Gamilaroi woman. Lora is a multidisciplinary artist, tour guide and regular radio and podcast host at Sydney's Radio Skid Row.  

Brenda Gaddi

Brenda is the founder of Women of Colour Australia. Brenda holds a B.A in Public Relations. She is currently completing her Master of Public and Social Policy at Macquarie University.
